Chin Implant
Patients of genioplasty, or chin implant surgery, seek to improve an appearance that has been marred by a weak chin. During genioplasty surgery, a small synthetic implant is inserted over the natural bone--a procedure known as chin osteotomy.
To fit the bone-like sterile implant, a cosmetic surgeon will make a small incision underneath the chin or inside the mouth. Chin augmentation can be performed in conjunction with facial liposuction to give the newly strengthened chin added appeal. Minor post-operative swelling and bruising are normal and generally abate within two weeks.
Most plastic surgeons recommend the patient wear a dressing and regulate discomfort with medication. With time the skin smoothes over the implant that has conformed to the bone. In most cases, the newly projecting chin greatly enhances the patient's appearance.
