Cosmetic Surgery for Women

In the year 2000, 86% of all cosmetic surgery procedures were performed on women--the five most popular invasive plastic surgery treatments being liposuction, eyelid surgery, nose job surgery, breast augmentation and facelift surgery. The same year, the top five non-surgical procedures among females were chemical peel, sclerotherapy (for varicose veins), micro-dermabrasion, Botox injection and laser hair removal.

Over 8.5 million people in the United States in 2001 opted to have cosmetic procedures performed--a staggering 88% of them were women. Evidently, a great many American women feel they need aesthetic alteration to improve their image and self-image. Liposuction and breast implants were popular cases, the former claiming 385,000 people, the latter 215,000 people. Surgical enhancement is becoming increasingly widespread among women who are unsatisfied with the appearance of sagging breasts, fleshy thighs and fatty abdomens.
