Patients undergo elective dental work known as cosmetic dentistry to improve the appearance of their teeth (thereby improve their smile) rather than to enhance the function of teeth--maceration.
Teeth that have been first suitably treated by a dentist to remedy decay may also need to be corrected for perceptible surface defects by way of artificial enhancement.
A cosmetic dentist increases the aesthetic appeal of teeth with the use of whitening agents, porcelain veneers, straightening mechanisms and other forms of cosmetic improvement. A dental cosmetic surgeon performs surgical procedures to correct functional and aesthetic problems in the mouth. Implants, for example, are common devices that are used as a more attraction alternative to dentures for replacing missing or lost teeth. During this surgical dentistry procedure, an anchor is fitted in the patient's jaw and an enamel-like ceramic restoration is build around it and made to suit the original tooth color.
