Laser

Lasers are frequently used by cosmetic surgeons for tattoo removal, spider vein treatment, wart removal and irregularly pigmented skin. Different types of lasers treat various skin imperfections.

A Carbon dioxide laser removes skin growths such as warts and moles by having its light absorbed by bodily water. When the CO2 beam of light is focused, it cuts into offending tissue while simultaneously sealing off blood vessels. When defocused, the irregular wart or mole tissue vaporizes.

Utilizing its reaction with hemoglobin, the yellow pulsed-dye laser destroys abnormal blood vessels, thus is ideal for treating skin problems such as a port wine stain (or neves flammeus, a condition caused by enlarged capillaries of the skin, typically facial skin).

By way of a blue-green beam that is absorbed by red pigment, an argon laser is used for treating spider veins, blood blisters, certain vascular tumors and birthmarks, particularly strawberry birthmarks.
