Teen Cosmetic Surgery

Recent statistics suggest that cosmetic surgery procedures have become increasingly common among teens. Of the teen cosmetic surgery procedures, breast augmentation is the most popular--breast implants for young women under the age of 18 have tripled in the last half decade, even given the requirement of parent consent.

Teen plastic surgery has uncertain implications particularly as no reputable studies have been conducted to measure the long term impact of breast implants on women. Many young women are unaware of the possibility of implant breakage and changes in implant condition. Implants may also affect women's ability to breastfeed and hinder the ability to detect breast cancer.

Aside from breast augmentation, some young women of certain cultural groups desire to alter their face structures to a stereotypical mold of women's beauty. From nose jobs to eyelid surgery to liposuction, plastic surgery has taken on a new role among young people.
