Risks
As with other types of surgery, there are risks involved in cosmetic surgery. Patients of plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery should keep in mind, however, that scarring and other side effects are often due to tissue response rather than a lack of surgical skill. Nonetheless, choose board-certified and recommended cosmetic surgeon to avoid the following cosmetic surgery risks:
In the case of a liposuction procedure, post-operation infection may occur. Embolism can also take place if loosened fat enters the ruptured blood vessels. Puncturing of a vital organ is another improbable but very serious risk. Anesthetic reactions such as sustained numbness and muscle spasm are possible during liposuction.
Breast implant procedures involve risk as well. Breast implants may not only burst and leak, but become uncomfortably hardened over time. Numbness or oversensitivity of the nipples is another possibility. Implants that become lopsided may need to be righted by a cosmetic surgeon. Most often, scarring of breast skin does tend to blend into the normal skin, becoming less patent.
After Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) swelling can occur in the corners of the eyelid. Discomfort when closing eyes, a droop in the lower lid and blurry vision are other risks for this type of facial cosmetic surgery.
